Metamodeling-Based Coherence Checking of OWL Vocabulary Background Models
نویسندگان
چکیده
The surface (or, foreground) structure of linked data and their associated OWL vocabularies can be complemented by background models expressing valid ontological distinctions that may have become obscured by the modeling style chosen by the vocabulary designer. Background models can generally serve for debugging, visualization, matching, or even pattern-based design of operational ontologies such as linked data vocabularies. An example of a well-known background model language, primarily suited for taxonomic ontologies, is the system of OntoClean meta-properties. We present an alternative type of background model language, dubbed PURO, which is oriented towards linked data ontologies, and relies on particular–universal and relationship–object dichotomies. Typical ‘foreground’ manifestations of background language terms are then discussed. We demonstrate how a PURO background structure of OWL vocabularies can be itself modeled in OWL using a dedicated PURO ontology, and how reasoning over such a metamodel can verify ontological coherence of the original

TwoUse: Integrating UML Models and OWL Ontologies
UML models and OWL ontologies constitute modeling approaches with different strength and weaknesses that make them appropriate for use of specifying different aspects of software systems. In particular, OWL ontologies are well suited to specify classes using an expressive logical language with highly flexible, dynamic and polymorphic class membership, while UML diagrams are much more suitable f...
متن کاملOWL-Full Metamodeling with SWCLOS
There are some logic-based approaches to metamodeling in OWL. We enabled OWL metamodeling with an object-based approach. In this paper, we introduce criteria for metamodeling, that are derived from the principles of object-oriented metamodeling, and demonstrate examples of metamodeling with SWCLOS.
متن کاملThe Consistency of OWL Full
We show that OWL1 Full without the comprehension principles is consistent, and does not break most RDF graphs that do not use the OWL vocabulary. We discuss the role of the comprehension principles in OWL semantics, and how to maintain the relationship between OWL Full and OWL DL by reinterpreting the comprehension principles as permitted steps when checking an entailment, rather than as model ...

متن کاملReasoning in Metamodeling Enabled Ontologies
Ontologies are expected to play an important role in many application domains, as well as in software engineering in general. One problem with using ontologies within software engineering is that while UML, a widely used standard for specifying and constructing the models for a software-intensive system, has a four-layer metamodeling architecture, the standard OWL Web Ontology Language does not...
